Stress Management


Stress happens to everyone at one point in their life or another. Learning stress management skills can help a person feel more in control of their thoughts and emotions.  Learning to take responsibility for your stress is the first step towards feeling in control.

Dr. Ryan Niemiec, Psy.D., wrote a wonderful article on Psychology Today to help combat stress.  Here are a few of the highlights from his article:

  • Reframing-looking at a stressor in a more realistic way, which neutralizes is stressful consequences.

  • Improving your planning with daily checklists, planners, and organization.

  • Learning relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation. 

  • Practicing mindfulness techniques such as mediation 

  • Developing a forgiving styleby letting things go

  • Practicing gratitude for everything in life

  • Using positive affirmations for yourself to remind you how awesome you are
